Riverside Community Church had a great template, and we will follow their outline...
The 31 Day Proverbs Challenge is a very simple way to engage God's Word and share it with others. Here are the basic guidelines:
1) Starting today, read the chapter in Proverbs that corresponds to today's date. For example, if today is November 17th read Proverbs 17. If today is November 20th read Proverbs 20. If today is November 1st read Proverbs 1.2) After reading the chapter, choose one verse from the chapter that you want to share with someone. From our earlier example, if today you read Proverbs 17 then you might choose Proverbs 17:10 "A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool." Or you may choose Proverbs 17:17 "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." You may find it hard to choose just one.
3) Go public with it! Whichever verse(s) you choose to share, from the reading each day, post them here! Post it on your facebook status or twitter account. Add it to the autosignature on your emails. Make a point of working it into a conversation throughout the day. Sit down as a family or with a group of friends and share which verse you chose. The possibilities are endless...
4) Come back to our blog/page and leave a comment to tell us how you are choosing to take on the challenge so others can be encouraged by your stories!
5) Tomorrow, do it all over again...for the next 31 days.
I can not wait to get home and jump in the first chapter of Proverbs...Oh its on :D
ReplyDeleteAwesome Lauren! Glad you accepted the challenge!! On that note, in my reading of Proverbs 1 today, the verse that spoke to me was:
ReplyDeleteProverbs 1:33 "But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.” It's comforting to know, that as long as we LISTEN to Him, we are secure and have no need to fear evil... I've been meditating on that verse and thanking God for His word.
I'm in! Chapter 2 = "When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you." Proverbs 2: 10-11
ReplyDeleteDay-2 of our challenge!! I am being blessed already. This is wonderful! The first two chapters have really focused on wisdom and how important it is to be wise... How does one become wise???
ReplyDelete"For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;" Proverbs 2:6
... and THERE you have it! :)
Day-3!!! Wow, Proverbs 3 is a FULL serving. It is HARD to narrow it down. I really could share the WHOLE chapter... But I won't. I don't want to spoil it, as I know you are reading it for yourself! ;)
ReplyDeleteProverbs 3:11
"My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor detest His correction;
For whom the LORD loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. "
I know I am a little late on the 2 chapter but if I may...
ReplyDeleteProverbs 2:21-22
"For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it."
These verses spoke to me; that all though we are not perfect God calls us to be in the likeness of his own image. This inspires me to try to be up right and perfect in the eyes of the lord.
Ok so today this is the verse(S) that spooke into my life.
ReplyDeleteProverbs 3:11-12
"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."
I feel as though sometimes we may feel like God is punishing us for something we have done or said; but through this verse(s) it really hits home. If God didn't care about our spiritual wellbeing, then there would be no discipline at all. SO I thank God for showing me he cares.
Day 3!! Proverbs Chapter 3, where do I begin?? This whole chapter was good to ME. I felt like God was speaking to me in so many ways throughout this Chapter. I had to go back and read it again! Then when I finally decided to go with Proverbs 3:11-12 I see that Lauren has already beat me to it!! - Powerful verse, isn't it? It really helps us to put things into perspective. I also thank God for loving me enough to correct me when I'm wrong! ... Okay so I'll share another verse that spoke to me: Proverbs 3:1-2 "My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
ReplyDeletefor they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity." ... Peace and prosperity sound good to me. Thanking God for His teachings!
Day-4!! Proverbs 4:13 "Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life."
ReplyDeleteTake firm hold of instruction - because she is YOUR LIFE. I am truly being blessed by this challenge!
Day 4!!!
ReplyDeleteProverds 4:13-15
13: Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14: Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15: Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
Ok SO I know that I am only supposed to pick one verse but I feel like I could not do it!!! So there you go...SHE IS THY LIFE. That’s huge, holding on to the word of God because he is your LIFE...so crazy. But I also loved the message of do not even walk pass evil to do a complete 180 and turn your back on it. Never giving evil a chance, GOD IS SOOOOOO GOOD and I am truly blessed to be a part of this challenge.
Day 7!!! Playing a little catch up...
ReplyDeleteProverbs 7:3
"Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart."
I love the thought of having the word written on a tablet on your heart. To me this symbolizes I am the word, and I will strive to live in it, as it does in me.
Sorry Sisters, for my late posts! I have been traveling the past few days, but I am home now!! Day-6!! Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things the LORD hates,
ReplyDeleteseven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."
Day-7!! Proverbs 7:1 "My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you."
Day 8!! Proverbs 8:8-9 "All the words of my mouth are righteous (upright and in right standing with God); there is nothing contrary to truth or crooked in them. 9 They are all plain to him who understands [and opens his heart], and right to those who find knowledge [and live by it]."
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that a part of us understanding His word is tied into the act of "opening our hearts". We have to be open and set our hearts on Him. Thanking God for His word today.
Day 9!! Proverbs 9:8-9 "Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning."
ReplyDeleteTo be wise, is to be able to accept constructive criticism. We should desire to become wiser, to increase in learning... Also, it is not for us to correct those who do not believe, rather let our lives be quiet examples of God's love and righteousness. The blessing continues! Loving this challenge!!
DAY 10!!! We are a day behind, but I find that our verse for Day-10 goes so well as we are celebrating our Veterans today, for their service and sacrifice:
ReplyDelete"The memory of the righteous is blessed..." Proverbs 10:7
Happy Veteran's Day to all of our veterans and their families. May God continue to cover and keep you!
DAY-11!!! "A gracious woman retains honor..." Proverbs 11:16
ReplyDeleteDAY-11!! "As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion." Proverbs 11:22 ... "Discretion" is defined by Websters, as the quality of having or showing discernment or good judgment : the quality of being discreet. Lovely ladies, God is speaking to all of us through this challenge. Heavenly Father, we hear you. As we go throughout this day, and those to come, help us to show discretion. In Jesus' name, Amen.
ReplyDeleteDay-12!!!! "A virtuous and worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband, but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones." Proverbs 12:4 ... This is GOOD to me!!
ReplyDeleteDAY-13!! "He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed." Proverbs 13:20 ... Who are you walking with?? Something to think about. Loving this challenge!
ReplyDeleteGood morning!! DAY-14!! ... "Go from the presence of a foolish and self-confident man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips." Proverbs 14:7
ReplyDeleteDAY-15!! "A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger." ♥ Proverbs 15:1
ReplyDeleteDay-16!! (Good morning!!) "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18
ReplyDeletes/n - "Haughty": blatantly and disdainfully proud / arrogant superiority
"HUMBLE": not proud or arrogant / modest / courteously respectful
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:2 Have a BLESSED day - And - BE a blessing! ♥
Day-17!! - "He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends." Proverbs 17:9
Oooh, this challenge is SO good to me! <3
DAY-18!! "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD." Proverbs 18:22 ...
ReplyDeleteIn addition, "A woman's heart should be so deep in Christ, that a man would have to seek HIM, in order to find her." ...
Oooh, lots to think about this morning ladies!! :)
DAY-19!! "Hear counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, that you may be wise in the time to come." Proverbs 19:20
Day-20!! "Many a man proclaims his OWN loving-kindness and goodness, but a faithful man who can find? The righteous man WALKS in his integrity..." Proverbs 20: 6-7 ...
ReplyDeleteLadies, we have to pay less attention to the "talk" and observe his "WALK" (his character/values). Actions speak louder than words. What are his actions telling you? Listen.
DAY-21!! (Good Morning!!) "Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles." Proverbs 21:23 - - Remember it's MEDITATE on the Word Monday - What an awesome verse to write on our hearts today, definitely a good one to commit to memory. Have a blessed day - and BE a blessing! :)
ReplyDeleteDay-22!! "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
ReplyDeleteDay-23!! "Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge. " Proverbs 23:12
ReplyDeleteDay-25!! "Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls." Proverbs 25:28
ReplyDeleteDay-26!! "As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly." Proverbs 26:11 WOW! This one hit hard. As a DOG returns to his one vomit?? That is a real analogy... we all make mistakes, but are we learning from them or REPEATING them?? #ProverbChallenge
DAY-27!!!! "As water reflects the face, so one’s LIFE reflects the heart." Proverbs 27:19 .... What does your LIFE reflect?? (something for us to think about... to really consider)
