Help Us BLESS the Youth in Our Community!

Sisters Evolve “Clothing & Cosmetic Drive” for Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth – Info Session Minutes

“It takes a VILLAGE to raise a CHILD.”

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me…
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ – MATTHEW 25:34-40

Why: It is our desire this year to partner with NPHY to give, to impact, and to shower God’s love on the children/youth they are serving. We want to through our words, efforts, and ACTIONS share God’s love with them and TRULY make a difference in their lives! How many know the LOVE of GOD has the power to change the course of a life?! Amen. We all also know (especially at that age and sensitive time in their lives) how good it feels on the INSIDE, to look our best on the outside!

WHO: {Serving/Volunteering/Donating} – Open to all members of Sisters Evolve, all of our friends and family (male & female), churches, community organizations, salon owners, barber shops, etc!! Anyone with a heart to serve/give is welcome to join us! {Benefiting} – The youth (young women and men) who are served by NPHY.

WHAT (are we doing) 3-PARTS:

1)   Clothing & Cosmetic Drive (MARCH)

2)   Month-long drive will culminate in a “It Takes A Village” park/picnic event

3)   Bi-weekly Beauty/Grooming Life Skills Classes/Salon Set-up

WHEN: The C & C Drive will run the entire month of March. The picnic will take place the 1st weekend of April (location tbd, suggestions welcome). Life Skills classes – our goal is to begin mid-April!

HOW:

{URGENT NEED!} – We are in need of an SE Reach (outreach) Coordinator!! This sister would assist in coordinating our efforts, host/facilitate our bi-weekly life skills classes, serve as a contact person, and a liason between SE and NPHY. We are seeking an organized individual who is passionate about making a difference in the community. If you fit this description or know someone who does, PLEASE, let us know. You can email us at admin@sistersevolve.com with the subject “outreach”.

{VOLUNTEERS} – For all who are interested in serving with us this year, as we partner with Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, the next VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION session is Wednesday 2/27/13 from 5-6pm. If you are interested in volunteering with us, these sessions are MANDATORY. Please note: you cannot attend the orientations unless you RSVP. There IS a maximum attendance per session! TO RSVP: contact Erica Harmon at Erica@nphy.org . Please let her know you are with Sisters Evolve when you RSVP!

>>> Clothing & Cosmetic Drive <<< For all who are committed to serving with us, this is our plan and what we need from you:

1)   Put out the call for DONATIONS within YOUR circle of influence. This can be done in a variety of ways, to include: text messages, emails, phone calls, facebook posts (please share the event and add all of the men and women in your life to the event), work (if allowed), your church ministries, etc. Remember MEN & WOMEN are welcome and encouraged to DONATE and to VOLUNTEER with us! If you know any salon owners, barbers, nail technicians, beauty supply owners, etc please get them involved and/or let us know. We are challenging each person participating in our drive, to also contact (in addition to your church) five additional churches to invite them to participate with us, not only in the drive but also they are invited to have their ministries join us at the “It takes a village” picnic we will be hosting. If they would like to participate we will deliver a drop-box to them! As well, for any businesses or ministries who participate we will share/highlight them in a variety of ways: on the drop boxes around town, in our newsletter, and more. Ideas on how we can share our sponsors are also welcome!

2)   DROP BOXES: We plan to place Donation Drop Boxes in as many places throughout the city as possible! Your ideas/suggestions are welcome!
We plan to reach out to UNLV, libraries, gyms (24-hour fitness, etc), Community Centers, Churches, Salons, Beauty Supply stores, Family Christian Stores, etc! We will also need volunteers to get together one day to create the drop boxes – if you are artsy and/or creative, we need YOU! J We will begin on the drop boxes very SOON as they are key in receiving donations! Our first definite drop opportunity will be our upcoming MiniMeet on Sat. March 2nd from 10a-1pm. Please begin to encourage everyone to drop off on this date! Location: Grace Covenant Christian Church 730 W. Cheyenne, just East of MLK in business complex.

3)   RADIO, NEWSPAPER, CRAIGSLIST, AND ANY OTHER MEDIA OUTLETS – If any of you have any media contacts, it is our goal to get the word out! We desire to reach as many people as possible. Ideas, suggestions, contacts welcome and needed!

4)   YOUTUBE VIDEOS – We will be recording some youtube videos as another way to spread the word and request donations! If you would like to be a part of the videos, we’d love to have you. We will set a date to record asap! Email us with the subject “youtube video” if you would like to participate. All others, please SHARE the video once we have it recorded and uploaded!

5)   ITEMS WE ARE COLLECTING: They currently have a list of necessities and many people/organizations who are responding to that list. It is our desire to bless the youth, not so much in the area of necessities, but in the area of extras. Those things that we may take for granted, which aren’t necessarily necessities, but nonetheless make a HUGE difference in our lives.
